For this lesson the learning objective is Students will identify and illustrate the basic needs of living things, including food, water, air, and shelter. They had to design a habitat for a chick then they got the supplies to build it. Some problems I anticipated were the kids not taking it seriously. I was afriad they would mess around with all of the supplies. I had a couple children do it but when i reminded them what we were doing they ended up doing it. The ah-ha moment of this lesson for me was when one of the kids built an actual enclosure and was so excited and happy that it really looked like one. The baseline meausre i used for prior knowledge was the students had chicken eggs incubating in their classroom for a few weeks. They loved learning about them then so I wanted to extend the lesson. The assessment I used was I had to check their plans before they actually built the habitat. Then they also had to show me what it looked like when done. Everyone passed with a 100%. I would not change much about this except next time I might bring more/different materials to have the kids use to build with.
