For this paired inquiry science lesson, the learning objective was the student will be able to conduct investigations and sort objects with sorting trays with 80% accuracy. The standard for this lesson was (Standard(s) K.PS.1) Plan and investigate using senses to describe and classify different kinds of objects by their composition and physical properties. Explain these choices to others and generate questions about the objects. Students will learn to sort and classify items by senses. I taught this lesson as it was written. I did small groups insetad of whole group. There were not any problems to be anticipated and I did not have any either. The children had lots of fun and enjoyed this activity. The baseline knowledge that I used was observations of the class
and through the host teachers’ direct input on what standards the class would be using. I was told that the students loved items from the outdoors and this helped me choose the activity. The ah-ha moment during this lesson was when the students were
able to sort the objects by more than just size. The students also
sorted the objects by color and texture. I assessed by walking around and checking each groups sorting. 3 out of 5 groups got 100%. The two other groups only missed one. I wouldn't change anything. The lesson went great and the students loved it.
