NAEYC Standard: Standard 6 Becoming a Professional
Candidates prepared in Early Childhood Programs understand that working with children is complex. Identifying and involving oneself with the early childhood field, knowing about and upholding ethical standards and other professional guidelines, engaging in continuous, collaborative learning to inform practice, integrating knowledgeable, critical and reflective perspectives on early education, and engaging in informed advocacy for children and the profession. (NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence: The Fall Semester of 2019 in ECED 210, I worked on my own by creating an educational center. This project contained many different things. I became very familiar with how to be a director of a facility, what it takes to run an educational center, and making a center the best for the educational learning of children.
Analysis of What I Learned: Through completion of this educational center, I was able to come up with a center for preschoolers. I had to create an entire facility from scratch which helped me gain knowledge of the entire early childhood field. I was able to make additional connections by relating my facility to Vygotsky’s theory. In my facility the teachers are very hands on with the students. He believes children learn best from caregivers, which I also believe is true. I had to come up with evaluations for the teachers and the director which would benefit the students. I learned how to help a facility become licensed which upholds ethical standards and professional guidelines. Through this artifact I learned how involving and timely it is to run an early childhood educational facility.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard: This project was just one of the many I have done that involves myself in the early childhood field, knowing and upholding ethical standards, and being critical, reflective, and professional. I spent a lot of time, well 8 weeks to be exact, researching and putting together an entire presentation over my new educational center.
