I chose to do my lesson plan over weather. The learning objective is the class will be able to tell how to take safety during weather on a worksheet with 80% accuracy. The standards used are K-ESS3-2. Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of
weather forecasting to prepare for, and respond to, severe weather. K.RN.2.2 With support, retell the main idea and key details of a text.
I taught the lesson exactly according to plan. Some problems I anticipated were the kids not taking it seriously but they ended up doing really well. The baseline knowledge I used was that the kids already practice for a tornado drill once a month. I also used input from my host teacher and she told me some of the kids in the class were really interested in weather. The ah-ha moment in this lesson was when I showed the students other kind of extreme weather in other parts of the world. There weren’t any problems with the science lesson. The students enjoyed doing the science experiment.
I used the students worksheets to assess. They all got a 100%. I would not change anything about this lesson. It went very well and the kids were so excited for it.
